Bed is being recalled

Review Date: August 5, 2010
Reviewer: kitchee, Ontario, Canada
These beds are being recalled. The power adaptors that were sold with the heated beds from September 2006 through April 2010 are faulty. They can can cause an electrical arc when removed from the bed, posing a fire hazard. Stop using the power adaptor and contact the company at 800-732-2677 to receive a replacement. This came directly from the September 2010 issue of Consumer Reports.

This pet sleeper is a great buy for my two small dogs who both fit in the mini size.
Wasn't warm.

I took the worthless 'heater' out, zipped it up and gave it to a thrift store as a regular dog bed.
Warning. Your cat may never leave this bed!

I purchased this heated bed a couple of weeks ago thinking that my geriatric 18-year old cat might enjoy a warm spot to sleep when a lap was unavailable. Boy did I ever underestimate the appeal. It was love at first nap! She'll leave the bed to eat, use the litterbox, and read on the couch with me but that's about it. For the most part, she spends her day lounging contentedly in the bed. Dollar for dollar, I think that it's the best cat accessory I've purchased in all my years of cat ownership.

I thought I'd clear up a few misconceptions I read in earlier reviews:

1) It doesn't get terribly hot (which I think is a good thing). It's designed to generate about 12 degrees of heat above room temperature. If you throw a blanket on top of it for a few minutes and then touch the surface, you'll definitely feel the warmth.

2) The cover can be easily removed for washing. If you're worried about the durability of the zipper or fabric, you can always use one of those lingerie bag thingies.

3) With sufficient determination, the cord (like virtually all electric cords) can be chewed through. The plastic/rubber seems a little thicker than normal but it's hardly impenetrable. I've had a cat chew completely through much more substantial electric iron cord before. If your pet is a cord chewer, rather than blame the manufacturer you just need to exercise due diligence and extreme caution. All things considered, this may not be the product for you.
Love the dog bed

Reviewer: Teri,
I like the dog bed and so does my dog. She's a small/medium dog. the sides are very tall so she fits inside the bed and looks so cuddly when shes sleeping. I haven't used the heater only to test it. I live in California so we don't get very cold. I didn't buy it for that reason though but it is an added bonus if you want to use it. The price was great I had been shopping for a reasonably priced dog bed and just couldn't find one, even Wal-Mart or Target couldn't come close to the price. Thanks for offering this deal on Amazon.
My cats love them

Reviewer: Sharon D,
I have bought every kind of pet bed in the past for my cats and they will not sleep in any of them. When one of my cats came down with Chronic Renal Failure, I did a lot of research on CRF and I came across an article that recommended a heated bed or blanket for the cat. So I bought the small PetSafe Heated Sleeper. At the time I had three cats, it soon became a problem, all three cats love the bed I could not keep them out of it. So I had to buy another. This was over four years ago, recently one of the beds stopped heating so I had to buy a replacement (another PetSafe Heated Sleeper). It's also a relief for me, NO more cats on MY bed!!!
my cats love it

I purchased this for my 14 year old cat. She has problems getting around now a days. Her hips are tender when she tries to lay down. She loves this heated bed. My 3 year old cat apparently loves it too because I find her in it once in a while. I just purchased another one for her. I paid (...) for the first one while it was on sale and less than a month later I paid (...) for the second one. They are made very well and I leave it plugged in 24/7. A great bed for chilly nights and for older kitties.
Great Bed

Reviewer: Rhonda Lea,
I have two cats who are past their prime and they immediately took to this cat bed. They love the warmth even though we live in Florida and they spend a lot of their time sleeping together. It was a great buy and is a lot bigger than it looks in the picture, just right for two.
My kitty loves this!

My cat is an outside cat who sleeps in our garage at night. I bought her this bed to help keep her warm this winter and she absolutely loves it! It really does keep her warm as when she gets out of it her little tummy is warm to touch. She snoozes in this bed during the day as well. I highly recommend it.
"semi"heated dog bed

The bed is nice, it has very soft memory foam material. I thought this would be warmer than it is. My dog would definately prefer something warmer, but I know that this is for safety. With a blanket kept over it, it tends to stay warmer underneath, but still not quite what I thought it would be.
Small and not enough heat

Too small and did not provide enough heat. Also, for my greyhound, not enough padding. This is why I love shopping at Amazon, since they accepted the return without question
A real comfort to my cats

This has proved to be a nice investment (although the price is extremely reasonable). I have 3 cats, and 2 of them are "cat bed" sleepers. Both of them enjoy taking turns sleeping in this heated bed, especially the older of the two. I purchased the Small size, which is perfect for my cats (all are around 9 lbs.) and would be fine for even larger cats. The heat feels "barely there", but to sleep on it, this is probably the perfect temperature as you wouldn't want it hot or even too warm. I keep mine plugged in all of the time. The quality of the materials is excellent and it feels very well made. Bottom line, I highly recommend it if you have a pet that you already know will sleep in a pet bed.
The dogs love it...

We bought this for our older Chihuahua and she absolutely loves it! The bed foam is very thick and supportive, I'm impressed by the quality. The heat is just right, it's a steady low heat which is great because it doesn't force her to get up to cool off. If you put a small blanket over the bed, it does help raise the temprature. I have noticed that the dogs sleep longer and more soundly in this bed. This is a fantastic bed if you have an older dog that has back/joint problems. I'm only sorry I didn't buy it sooner.
my dog stopped sleeping in my bed over this!

Good product for the price

Reviewer: Andrew,
I am very pleased with this bed. My elderly cats love it. They both fit in it and one of them is about 14 lbs. I leave it plugged in all the time and haven't had any problems. The only thing that I don't like is that it's made out of an egg-crate material so if something penetrates the cover, it's very difficult to clean. One of my cats is incontinent at times so I have put an extra towel on top of it just in case. It's very difficult if not impossible to clean the actual bed. Overall though it's still a good value as I could buy 2 of these for the price of a smaller one at the local pet stores and I would need 2 of them for both cats.
